Social media graphics to celebrate Borussia Mönchengladbach’s success
To celebrate Borussia Mönchengladbach’s qualification for the UEFA Champions League at the culmination of the 2019/20 season, we were commissioned to design social media graphics in a variety of sizes for their channels.

The Challenge
At the end of the 2019/20 Bundesliga season, we were approached by MMC Sport and Borussia Mönchengladbach to design a vibrant social media graphic to celebrate the club’s top-four finish, which ensured their qualification for the 2020/21 UEFA Champions League competition.
The brief required us to capture the sense of victory and celebration, featuring all of the team’s star players, manager and mascot, creating social media content that would be published across all of the club’s channels.
In total, there would be 11 figures featured on the graphic with the tagline #GladToBeBach, so our use of composition and space would be instrumental in delivering an impactful design.
The Design Process
Following a consultation with the client, we sketched out a few ideas, and from the very start, we loved the idea of using the club’s diamond-shaped crest within the design. We sourced all images of the required players, mascot and manager, and got them ready for the graphic.
After this, the fun really started, composing the graphic to correctly place each club member. Great symmetry within the design was essential, and to do this, we organised the imagery so that there was an even number of club members facing left, centrally, and facing to the right of the image to achieve the desired balance. Once we’d composed the layout in Photoshop, we enhanced each club member’s image for maximum impact.
The process involved a lot of trial and error, and we sourced numerous alternative images for players to achieve the desired symmetry. Once this had been achieved, we edited the Champions League logo onto the corner flag held by their star player, Marcus Thuram, accompanied by the tagline #GladToBeBach.

The Result
The result was an impactful social media graphic for Borussia Mönchengladbach’s social media channels with the necessary dimensions for both posts and stories. The final graphic was a symmetrical design that achieved the balance that we targeted at the start of the project to create a striking and vibrant graphic encapsulating the sense of achievement and celebration in reaching the UEFA Champions League for the first time in three years.
