My first client was based in America, and I have now invested £5,000 into the launch of Matthew King Creative following huge interest in my design work on social media, which helped me to secure over 20 clients in the last 12 months.
I started using social media sites such as Instagram to showcase my skills when I was struggling to get a job in the design industry. After studying graphic design at university, I was left working in ticket sales for two years after graduating.
When I left university, I found it difficult to get a job in the
design industry as it’s so competitive. After a tough few years, I got my first
full-time job where I developed my skills for two years as a graphic designer.
Now, I work at WDA
in Derby, where I hope to enhance my
skills even further before starting my own business doing what I love.
I really rediscovered my love for design after starting my own freelance work around my job. I lost faith when I couldn’t get a job in the industry I worked hard to be a part of, so I decided to start up on my own after reading an inspirational blog online which motivated me to be more ambitious with my career prospects.
Working in a creative role for the last two years reignited my passion for the industry as I got to work on some great campaigns, but I decided to dedicate more of my spare time to my own designs as they allow me to be more expressive and creative.
A specialist branding, print, and digital design agency, my aim for Matthew King Creative are to offer a variety of services in order to create and develop a professional image for businesses.
Since focusing on my brand I have had requests for design work from all over – my first ever client was an American company called Leveluxe which needed a logo design creating from scratch.
I love seeing an idea come to life and being able to design a project from start to finish – it’s always satisfying to see the end result.
As a young designer, I hope that the official launch of my business will bring further custom and growth. I am thankful to have grown up in Nottingham surrounded by a strong creative industry, I don’t think I could’ve started in a better place.
